XIGV: The First ETF Targeting the Nasdaq-100, Ex-Software

As AI begins to do to software what the creator economy did to television, XIGV gives investors a way to own the Nasdaq-100’s hardware, semiconductor, and connectivity foundation — with the software names most exposed to AI disruption screened out.

The Thesis

Artificial intelligence is beginning to do to software what the creator economy did to television. Just as YouTube, TikTok, and a generation of independent creators fragmented the cable bundle and rewired how content is made, distributed, and monetized, large language models and AI agents can increasingly generate code, automate workflows, and reproduce features that software companies have long sold by subscription — putting pressure on traditional software-as-a-service (SaaS) business models.

XIGV is built around a single conviction: the real foundation of the AI era sits one layer down — in the semiconductors, hardware, and connectivity that every AI system is built on and runs through. As the software layer looks increasingly exposed, that foundation looks more essential than ever. XIGV is designed to give investors exposure to it, with the software names most exposed to AI-driven disruption screened out.

Why XIGV

  • A first-mover thesis. XIGV is the first U.S. ETF designed to target the Nasdaq-100 while systematically screening out the software industry.
  • Own the foundation. The portfolio is oriented toward the semiconductor, hardware, and infrastructure layer that AI is built on — not the software it may disrupt.
  • A clear, simple idea. AI is doing to software what the creator economy did to television; XIGV seeks to own what’s underneath.
  • Rules-based and transparent. A passive, index-based approach that removes companies deriving 50% or more of their revenue from software.

Investment Objective

The Defiance US 100 Tech Ex Software ETF (the “Fund”) seeks to track the total return performance, before fees and expenses, of the Indxx US 100 Tech Focused Ex Software Technology Index (the “Index”).

Underlying Index: Indxx US 100 Tech Focused Ex Software Technology Index

The Index begins with the 100 largest Nasdaq-listed non-financial companies and applies a software exclusion screen. A company is removed if it derives 50% or more of its revenue from software-focused activities, including:

  • Application and system software
  • Cloud infrastructure
  • Cybersecurity
  • Engineering and data platforms
  • IT services

The result is a portfolio oriented toward the hardware, semiconductor, and infrastructure side of technology. As of the Fund’s launch, the Index was concentrated in the semiconductors industry.

The performance data quoted represents past performance. Past performance does not guarantee future results. The investment return and principal value of an investment will fluctuate so that an investor’s shares, when sold or redeemed, may be worth more or less than their original cost and current performance may be lower or higher than the performance quoted. Performance current to the most recent month-end can be obtained by calling 833.333.9383. Short term performance, in particular, is not a good indication of the fund’s future performance, and an investment should not be made based solely on returns. Market price is the price at which shares in the ETF can be bought or sold on the exchanges during trading hours, while the net asset value (NAV) represents the value of each share’s portion of the fund’s underlying assets and cash at the end of the trading day.
